Services - Gardasil from St Helen's Healthcare

Gardasil is the first vaccine that can prevent CERVICAL CANCER and other diseases caused by four human papillomavirus (HPV) types 6, 11, 16 and 18

Anyone who is sexually active can develop Cervical Cancer
St Helen’s Health Care is pleased to offer you the option of having Gardasil which is not expected to be routinely offered by the NHS.
This service is an opportunity for those individuals who are unlikely to be offered immunisation by the NHS vaccination programme or those who wish to avail themselves of the vaccine because it protects not only against cervical cancer but also against genital warts and pre-cancerous vulval lesions.
Cervical cancer kills around 1,000 women in Britain every year
GARDASIL protects against the two types of HPV that cause 70% of cervical cancers as well as the two that cause 90% of genital warts.
Gardasil is the vaccine of choice in the USA, Canada, Australia and most of Europe.
The new NHS vaccination programme for 12 and 13-year-old girls will use Cervarix vaccine to vaccinate against the two strains of HPV responsible for around 70 per cent of cervical cancers...

WHO SHOULD GET VACCINATED?
The vaccine is licensed for girls and women from 9 to 26 years of age.
Gardasil requires a total of 3 injections.
The length of vaccine protection is not known yet. To date, research shows that it protects for at least 5 years. It is possible that a booster may be needed at some point in the future, to maintain protection.
